Match Report - 05 Sep 2025, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Over 60's navy lost to Heavitree A
Our Navy side played their last match of the campaign v Heavitree A this afternoon, rearranged from about 3 weeks ago. Both of our triples started poorly, Stewart's 0 - 6 after two ends, mine 1 - 6 after four. 😔 But both picked up, Stewart's going to 4 - 8 after six and my side, rallying well with a '5' to go 7 - 6 up after six before keeping the opposition on '6' until the eleventh end for a 12 - 6 lead 🙂. Meanwhile, Stewart's side were in trouble, finding themselves 5 - 22 down after twelve 😱 but to their credit, they didn't throw in the towel, instead they fought back to take the remaining six ends to cut the deficit to six, 16 - 22. This gave us a good chance of gaining an overall win, dependent on our rink. We were looking good at 16 - 10 but Heavitree played a very good penultimate end, picking up '3' to all but close us out. The last end we were looking in with a chance but this time their number two came in off to take the Jack for a '2' at the back of the head 😖 I asked Kevin Parkin to play onto our bowls with a bit of weight. He played it well and sure enough, he got us the shot back 😃. Trouble is we needed at least 3 but idealy 4. There was still a chance but down to my last, I went for it, but I was too narrow 😫 but a 17 - 13 win. Sadly, once again, just not good enough to make the final difference. Still, we were out of the promotion race, so nothing lost, other than pride and getting full redemption from our loss at theirs a couple of months back. Nevertheless, we should take pride in how we held our own in this league, even giving ourselves a chance for a top two spot for a while. Just not quite enough this time round despite all our efforts.
