Over 60’s Match Report – 1st May 2024
TBBC ‘Gold’ (Home) v Marina ‘B’ (2 x Triples)
Weather: Fair and dry
Green: Dampish ground but green played reasonably well.
An earlier start of 2pm, saw both Borough teams get off to a flyer against a Marina side that has had to make some changes following some changes to all their senior sides.
Rink 5 – With Pete Thornton drafted in from the Maroon’s for his first try in the ‘Gold’ set up, at lead, the ever present Kevin Parkin at two and John Gutteridge as skip, bagged a ‘5’ first off and rather ran away with things over the first nine ends, dropping just ‘2’ on the fourth for a 18 – 2 lead. Marina then picked up a few shots before Borough forged further ahead, 23 – 6 after fifteen. Marina gained the consolation of reaching double figures before John’s side added a final ‘’3’ on the last for a comprehensive 26 – 10 win.
Rink 6 – With ever present Phil Brooker at lead, newbie Kevin Finan at two and the inscrutable Pete Chidgey skipping, also raced away, going 12 – 0 up after just four ends. However their opponents began to master the green and closed the gap somewhat, 13 – 6 after eight played. Unfortunately for Marina, they remained on ‘6’ for some time after as Pete’s side really got into their rhythm, piling on the shots to go 28 – 6 up with five to go. Marina added to their score to also achieve double figures but it wasn’t enough to give them bragging rights over their other team mates, with the match ending 30 -10 in Borough's favour.
Result:
TBBC ‘Gold’ = 2 winning Rinks (56 Shots) 8 Points
Marina ’B’ = 0 winning Rinks (20 Shots)
What a start for Tiverton Borough ‘Gold’, it's put us on top of the league as it happens, with fellow promoted side, Axminster a close second. A long way to go of course but it augurs wells for what we anticipate as a tougher season as we aim, primarily, to consolidate our Division 3 League status anything more would obviously be a bonus. 😎
