Match Report - 31 Jul 2024, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Over 60's navy beat Cullompton
Tiverton Borough 'Gold' managed to come away with all 8 points away at Cullompton today but it was far from plain sailing. John's rink with Kevin P and Tony C, who did all the running, were going well 13 - 3 after ten ends but the Cullompton triple started to make things more difficult, restricting Borough to just two more shots. Thankfully the scores against were being kept to singles, which was key as it was still 15 - 8 to Borough with one end to play. However, Pete Chidgey's side were also under pressure at this stage, who had also been in the driving seat at 15 - 9 after eleven. They too were struggling to score as Cullompton pulled things back and 16 - 14 on the seventeenth, Borough were looking in danger with multiple shots against but Pete managed to save the end by knocking the Jack out of the rink! The replayed end saw Borough come away with a single. Meanwhile, John's rink, on their last end, saw Tony Crawford, bowling without his mechanical arm, put three bowls on or near on what was, a maximum length Jack! It was all looking rosy until a certain David Jenkins, who had been a thorn in the side for much of the game, went with a heavy but accurate bowl and it knocked the Jack back and sideways, just on the edge of the ditch! David Jenkins then went again and again, was so accurate, he took the jack into the ditch along with with his bowl! Very impressive bowling! Sadly John failed to draw any near and the net result was a '4' shots to Cullompton. Thankfully, it wasn't enough to over turn John's lead, and his side came away with a 15 - 12 win. Chidgey's side also managed to hold on for the win, dropping just a single on the last for a 17 - 15 win. So another hard earned 8 Points for Borough 'Gold' to bolster their Championship ambitions.
