Match Report - 04 Sep 2024, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Friendly Triples lost to Wellington 5 x 3 Whites

Weather: Pleasant, some bits of sunshine but slightly cooler than if late.
Green: seemed to be cut lower than previous visits which made for a decent paced surface even though it had been well watered. Some found getting the lines difficult and had been reported it was on a lesser used setting due to an important weekend match to come.

Most of Borough players were slow to get going, one or two more than others. However just as things were settling down, around five ends, one of Wellingtons players, Alan Moore, on an extra rink they had playing, collapsed causing great concern and some confusion as to what to do. Thankfully, after a few minutes, Alan recovered sufficiently to raise himself and sit by the side of the green. Meanwhile, it was decided to have an early tea to allow for things to settle down.
The match resumed with fortunes turning out to be rather mixed. Phil Saunders side were much in control with Rod having another excellent afternoon, this time as Phil's number 2 and they came away with a 17 - 10 win. Kevin Parkin's held their own throughout and managed to pick up a second win for Borough albeit a bit closer, 16 -13.
Kevin Finan's triple gained momentum after a slow start to close within one shot after eleven ends but couldn't quite out compete their opponents who's skip proved very useful, so despite some very close ends, Kevin had to settle for a second place, 12 - 15.
Lloyd's triple had a brighter start and picking up a '4' gave them impetus, that's until a '4' against redressed the balance and some. But Lloyd's side battled well and and after ten ends were 12 - 9 up.
Unfortunately, that was to be the highest point as the next six ends went Wellingtons way and by the end, after just picking up one more single, it was another second place for Borough, 13 - 21.
Bringing up the rear however, was John's triple who let slip a '7' on the third end, it was a blow which despite their best efforts, could not recover from, Bev in particular, was often doing her a bit but it was a recurring theme where one of the two Tony's that Borough were up against, would come in and make secure shot or shots which John failed miserably too often to affect the outcome of the match - not his finest two or three hours it's fair to say. 8 - 25 the final score.
