Match Report
Match Report - 09 Jul 2025, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Over 60's navy lost to Seaton A
To use the typical sporting cliché, "We knew it was going to be a difficult match" and it certainly was. Stewart's started brilliantly and looked in total control, going 10 - 0 up. But, after conceding their first shot, things soon unravelled with Seaton securing another four ends to take the lead, 10 -13. End 14 saw Canal pick up a '5' to go into a 2 shot lead and with one end to go, were 18 - 15 to the good. But, Seaton came back, with 3 bowls all in a line in front of the Jack and then one behind, it was the worst case scenario to try to affect the situation, and unfortunately it ended with a '5' against, 18 - 20 the final score. My Rink soon realised the task ahead, dropping a '5' on the second end 😱 but we came back to level 7 -7 after seven ends. Two ends later we were 7 - 13 down but again, battled back with three '3's in succession to go 16 - 13 ahead. Could we keep it going? Err, no, no matter what we did, Seaton did better, what with a lead that planted what looked like great big boulders in front or close to the side of the Jack, a number two who loved to play into bowls with a bit of weight, often with a positive result for his side and a Skip, who just would not leave the Jack alone - time and again he knock it from us, not always with success but most of the time. Anyway, we got stuck on 16 for five ends, picking up just a single on the last, by carefully avoiding the customary immoveable brown boulder, sat close to it. The match finishing 17 -22 to Seaton 'A'. Sadly no points this time 😢 We certainly tried and had our moments, it was just that Seaton 'A' had more moments and there's little we can do about that.
