Match Report - 23 Aug 2025, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Friendly Triples beat Culm vale 6x3
‘Friendly’ match, again played, as it was on Thursday, in perfect late summer afternoon sunshine. For the most part, we seemed to take to their green well with scores fairly close on most by half time, with the exception of Kevin Parkin’s, who were racing away at 16 – 6. Having said that, my triple were unexpectedly hit for six when John Clist came in, managing to clear our holding shot bowl out. However, at the same time, Garfield’s side picked up a six on the adjacent rink to help counter and soften that unpleasant sinking feeling. After Tea, we all pushed on, starting with Kevin Finan’s that was yo yo’ing back and forth, however a ‘7’ on the fifteenth put a stop to that pattern and they romped home at the end, 26 – 15. Garfield was up against Mark Tuckett and almost inevitably, Mark began to make inroads to, what was, a seven shot deficit, but Garfield & Co did enough with just three singles to complete a 15 – 12 win.
My triple were in a very close match, despite that nasty ‘6’. Thankfully a ‘4’ and a ‘5’ in the second half helped give us the impetus to complete a very pleasing 22 – 19 win.
Andy Hingston’s triple also had a fairly close match but he too, managed to come out on top with a 19 – 16 win.
Kevin Parkin, with Phil S and Di, were initially pegged back a tad with a ‘4’ against after Tea but it was a brief hiccup as they soon got back on track to complete a run in that resulted in 12 shots from the last four ends, finishing with a resounding 31 – 12 win.
With five out of five so far, it was down to Jim Evans, Colin Kane and Jim’s son, David to potentially complete a full house! Jim, however, was up against the determination and guile of Donna. Jim had picked up a ‘6’ on the eleventh which made the scores 12 – 12. It was nip and tuck thereafter but Donna’s Culm Vale side just did enough in the end, to salvage a home win, 16 – 18.
All in all, it was a very good, enjoyable afternoon not just the convincing win but also the friendly spirit in which it was played.
