Match Report - 22 Jul 2024, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club East of Exe lost to Ilminster
Weather cloudy, bit of sun, muggy.
Up against Ilminster, hoping to gain some credibility after our match at theirs just a few weeks back.
Early signs were very promising for Borough, going well on most of the rinks with both Pete Chidgey's and Kevin Parkin's looking much the strongest. Phil Saunders were just one shot behind after ten ends but drew a blank for the next five and despite a late fightback could not recover what was a seven shot deficit.
John's rink found themselves really up against it but battled hard to draw level after eleven ends. But, again, just could not consolidate dropping nine shots over four ends to make it a near impossible task.
Kevin Parkin's side got themselves in a decent position, 9 - 6 after ten ends but also dropped nine shots, this time over five ends, relinquished their advantage and despite their best efforts, had to settle for second place too.
Pete Chidgey, with his changed side, were our shining lights, dominating an Ilminster side that were expecting great things. Finishing 26 - 11 meant it was close for the overall win so all eyes were on Kevin Parkin's triple who had yet to finish, they were behind as stated earlier but having just picked up two '2's, Borough were effectively one shot up! But, frustratingly it wasn't to be, the Ilminster side managed to secure '3' on the last, and with it, a '2' shot overall win. So near but . . . .
