Match Report - 20 Apr 2025, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Friendly Triples beat Taunton Vivary 4x3
First outdoor match for Tiverton Canal Bowling Club, a friendly v Taunton Vivary, their first visit at this location. Once again, following on from our opening day, the weather was kind apart from some light cloud hiding the sun for the most part and come the second half, It did get chillier out on the green.
The green itself, was a good deal heavier than a week ago, following the recent rains, so it took a while to get into the swing of things.
Stewart, on rink 3, with Maggie and Lesley rather dominated their match, at least after a shaky start when they were 1 -6 down after just four played. Indeed, unfortunately for Taunton, they didn't trouble the scoreboard for the next thirteen ends, having to wait until the very last to add a single shot to their earlier '6' . Stewart finishing 26-7.
Rink 4 saw Jim teamed with Kay and his son, David and they too, got into a nice rhythm after being down 2 -6 after five, to then pull ahead and away to gain a comfortable, 18 -7 lead. Taunton battled away to give themselves a slim chance closing the gap to just '6' shots but their slim hopes were dashed in the final run in, Jim seeing his side to a comfortable win, finishing 23 - 13.
Ian T was on rink 5 with Barry and Alison and again, after a slow start gained sufficient momentum to push ahead despite a the best efforts of their opponents. By the fifteenth end, Canal were 17 - 8 to the good which proved more than enough to ensure they picked up another home win, 19 - 12.
John was on rink 6 with Kevin F and Alice, and they found themselves up against a very determined triple making it a very hard fought match. Taunton first extending their early lead, 3 - 8 after eight ends but a '4' for John's side brought them back into the fray and they fought their way to a slender, 12-11 lead with just five ends to play. Credit where credit's due, this Taunton side upped their game and effectively stopped John's side in their tracks, to comfortably and deservedly secure their Club's only winning rink, 13 - 22.
