Match Report

Match Report - 19 May 2025, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club East of Exe beat Uffculme

Beautiful warm sunny evening, green reasonable pace but expected to be tricky to get the hang of but found to be fairly consistent on at least two of the rinks.
The first half a dozen ends TCBC looked to be going well on three but Uffculme began to claw their way back on two of those to make it look anything but a formality.
John's rinks were finding it hard to shake off their opponents but eventually managed to get the mat back and with it, wrestled back the momentum to finish strongly thanks to longer Jacks, 24 - 9. One end saw an unusual situation where Tony B knocked the Jack back close to the edge with his bowl in the ditch just behind, then Will W on Uffculme's side bowled brilliantly to play on to the Jack again, knocking it into the ditch finishing next to Tony's whilst the unlucky Will, saw his bowl about 4 inches away. With no touchers left on the green there was nothing that could be down to change the situation, even if a bowl were to sit on the very edge it would not of beaten Tony's or Wills for shot or second so we agreed the '1' to TCBC.
Phil's rink were put on the back foot on the eight end with a '5' against which was immediately followed by a '3' to go 4 - 13 down. But he and his side battled well to secure seven of the last nine ends but were still unable to gain enough shots, finishing 13 - 16.
Ian's rink experienced a very similar situation, dropping '5' on the sixth to go 2 - 9 down. But again, they battled hard and dominated the subsequent ends but because many were limited to singles, they just couldn't quite do enough to gain, what would have been a deserved win, finishing 13 - 15.
Finally, Stewart once again, enjoyed another successful outing along with his first E of E side. An early '4' and '3'set them on their way as they picked up the majority of ends throughout, dropping just five in total whilst amassing 24 shots to just 8 for Uffculme.
A very good start to our East of Exe campaign - something tells me we should do well this year!
