Match Report - 07 Jul 2025, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club East of Exe lost to Hemyock
East of Exe - Hemyock (Away) It was a beautiful sunny evening but with a chilly blustery wind at Hemyock last evening. The green looked and played well, up and down from the Club house for a change. We were feeling quietly confident, and things were fairly quiet for while . Things began to liven up, with the two Phil's especially, endeavouring to get the best out of their bowls in what proved to be a tough match. Stewart could be heard, praising his side's shots with regularity as they edged their way past a stubborn Hemyock side, picking up momentum to secure an 8 shot win. Nigel Manaton, playing as Skip on this occasion, enjoyed a very successful evening, with his side, especially Jim Evans, dominating proceedings, and they came away with an excellent 25 - 6 win. Phil's side, despite their best endeavours, had to settle for second place, finishing 4 shots adrift. So, all pretty good so far, but, I'm afraid, it was a rink skipped by Harold Barns with a number three by the name of Trever Drawert, that proved to good for my side, they were all over the Jack in numbers and when we were holding it was more often than not, usurped by Mr Drawert who bowled extremely well. Nonetheless, it is incumbent upon the opposition skip to minimise or limit the damage and I'm sorry to say, I failed too often to do that 😞. Therefore I do take responsibility for what turned out to be a very heavy loss, losing by 25 shots, which meant all the hard work on the other rinks counted for less than what they deserved and I'm very sorry for that. We did gain 4 Points for the two winning rinks so we are still well placed in the league but I know it should have been significantly better.
