Match Report - 11 Apr 2026, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Club dates and practice beat Opening Day
What a great start to our 2026 season, over 50 people supported this event and by the smiles and laughter they enjoyed themselves. Kevin Finan gave a little speech and presented Lloyd Daniels with a 'life membership'. Life Membership is the highest Award available to recognise the distinguished contribution of individuals to the Tiverton Canal Bowling Club.
The green was opened by president Alan Horwood, who alongside ladies captain Brenda Tucker and men's captain Stewart Maddocks rolled the first bowls of the season.
After this we held a 'Spider' competition, Nigel Manaton won and received a bottle of brandy, which was kindly donated by Kevin Parkin (thank you). We raised £41 for freewheelers blood bikers, our chosen charity of the year.
There followed a knockout tournament organised by John Gutteridge, this was great fun however, the wind and rain tried to spoil the afternoon but with true British grit, we battled through, albeit with coats and hats gathered from the changing rooms; Chris Hutter won after a seeing off all the others in the final, he was presented with a bottle or wine.
Once indoors we warmed ourselves with a hot drink and a very delicious 'bowlers tea' kindly provided by Alan and Jill Horwood with sumptuous cakes made by some of the ladies thank you all.
The afternoon was great success, with new members welcomed into the fold and hopefully everyone is excited and ready for a happy and successful season.
