Match Report - 29 Jul 2026, Tiverton Canal Bowling Club Over 60s navy beat Uffculme A
Over 60s 'Navy' were back to winning ways this afternoon v Uffculme 'A' at theirs and their rather dreadful looking green. It was extremely quick, especially on the brown areas, which were about 80% so quite a challenge to get the hang of. But "Get the hang of" we did after a number of ends. Stewart's side initially falling behind before a '5' brought them almost level. Uffculme pushed again to rebuild a '5' shot lead but a nice run of ends saw Canal go 13 -10 up before chalking up their second '5' to give them a nice cushion, 18 - 11. Uffculme kept battling away though and made things tight with one end to go, 19 - 17. The last end was tense, Bob playing well to get shot but Jack got played out towards the back with Uffculme looking favourites but Stewart did well to come through a number of bowls to get shot before closing the match out, with huge relief, picking up '2' in the end, for a 21 - 17 win. John's triple were a little bamboozled to begin with on Rink 1 but still managed to only be two shots down. That was until the fourth end, when Kevin Parkin came in and on to a long Jack, taking it into the ditch for an early game changer. Holding about four initially, they came away with a '6' 😎 before building further with a '4' on the next. Uffculme, especially their skip John Sheer, knew their green well of course and they made things difficult at times but it was very satisfying to see the team, stick to their guns and effectively close the game out, eventually finishing 24 - 11. So an excellent 8 Points all things considered
